Mercy Education
Mount Mercy Academy is a sponsored ministry of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and is a member of Mercy Education.
This program was established in July 2017. Mercy now belongs to an education system with 49 other Mercy education ministries, including schools in Argentina, Belize, Guam, Honduras, Jamaica, the Philippines and the United States.
The development of the Mercy Education system has been a five year process. The foundation of the entire system is the establishment of relationships between Mercy educators in the seven countries sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. These relationships will allow educators to share resources and their best practices as they continue to prepare their students for an accelerated culture and a truly global society. In addition, the system will ensure that Mercy educators will continue to share Mercy values and a Catholic identity well into the future.
This opportunity will allow the faculty at Mount Mercy Academy to "more proactively access-and contribute to - the wealth of knowledge, talent and resources that Mercy education has to offer."

Our Story
On September 24, 1827, Catherine McAuley opened the House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland, including the first "Mercy School" - a classroom dedicated to training young women. In 1831, Catherine and two companions took vows to become the first Sisters of Mercy, beginning a religious order to carry on their important service to those who were poor, sick, and uneducated.
Sisters of Mercy and their companions, associates and co-workers continue Catherine McAuley's mission of education. To ensure that mission into the future, the Sisters of Mercy established Mercy Education in 2017.
Mercy Education
Core Values
Compelled by Mercy
Mercy students, in the spirit of our founder Catherine McAuley, are steadfastly determined to take Mercy into an interconnected world. Our shared sense of social consciousness is fortified by universal empathy and a conviction that all are worthy of God's mercy. This deep awareness and compassion move us to take principled action and serve the needs of others.
Inspired by Faith
Mercy Students become living models of faith and forceful advocates for Gospel values. Grounded in our Catholic identity in the Mercy tradition, we welcome all faiths and are strengthened and shaped by these relationships. As we pursue a personal relationship with God, we strenuously follow Jesus Christ's example of social justice, love and service.
Educational Courage
Mercy students welcome the challenge of pursuing their full potential in a culture of excellence, critical thinking and curiosity. Their multifaceted journey builds character while it builds essential skills. Our holistic program expects engagement, a thirst for knowledge and personal responsibility, while preparing students to thrive for a lifetime.
Principled Leadership
Mercy students are poised to lead with their unique gifts. Prepared with an ethical and moral compass, we put Mercy values into action and work assertively for what is right. We're equipped to make difficult choices, learn from our mistakes and develop high emotional intelligence. As an international community, we're confident in our ability to make a positive difference and push for systematic change.
A Voice For Dignity and Respect
Mercy students honor the intrinsic value of the individual and recognize God's presence in each person. We embrace a global vision and value differences of opinion, and are unafraid to confront hostile or hurtful attitudes, By standing up for those who can't, we go beyond acceptance to help make sure everyone feels recognized and heard.
Mercy Education Portrait of a Graduate
Our Profile of the Graduate is how students come to manifest and embody our Core Values. It is the culmination of everything a Mercy Education hopes to achieve. Throughout the student’s journey, this blueprint defines the attributes they’re expected to acquire and the steps they’ll take to gain them.
With the Profile of the Graduate, every experience and academic opportunity is linked to and aligned with our Core Values.
The Critical Concerns
of the Sisters of Mercy
The Sisters of Mercy were founded out of a deep concern for people who are poor. Today, that commitment focuses on five Critical Concerns:
Earth – Immigration – Nonviolence – Racism – Women
Hearing the cry of our suffering world, we respond to the impoverishment of peoples, the devastation of Earth and oppressive social systems by focusing on our Critical Concerns and the interconnections among them. We show our commitment to these concerns through personal transformation, community choices, educational outreach, legislative advocacy, corporate engagement and spiritual practices.
